Rabbitear iris flowers in Asazawa Shrine

Asazawa Shrine is an auxiliary shrine of Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine that is located few minutes from east entrance of Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine. Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine has been most popular to people and called "Ichinomiya of Settsu" and that about 5 minutes’ walk from Sumiyoshi Taisha station of Nankai train.

*They say "Settsu" in ancient that is the old country which accounts for northwest of Osaka Prefecture and southeastern of Hyogo Prefecture.

When I talked with a Shinto priesthood of Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine, he said, "In recent years, we have been struggling to get rid of the channeled apple snails, which are alien species, so we drained water in the winter."

There are various influences, and although the number of rabbitear iris flowers is small this year, I understood that they struggled to maintain the landscape.

The harmony of the sparkling water surface reflecting the clear sky in May and the rabbitear iris flowers swaying in the wind were very beautiful.

By the way, at Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine, the beginning of May is the season of "Unohana (Deutzia)". Deutzia is a deciduous shrub of the genus Deutzia of the Hydrangeaceae family, and it is called "Unohana" because it blooms in the "Udsuki (April)" in lunar month of the lunar calendar.

They say that Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine had been established in 11th year of the regent of Empress Jingu (211 AD) = "Uno-hi" of "Uno-tsuki" of "Uno-toshi", and they are held the "Unoha Shinto ritual" for anniversary of foundation at the first "Uno-hi" in May.

They say that almost varieties of the Deutzia in Japan are planted in Deutzia Garden. The appearance of small white and light pink flowers in full bloom is spectacular and beautiful.

I thank you for everyone.
